In this Lunch + Learn series we’ll be looking at what it means to love our neighbor in our vocational lives. Our hope is that God will use stories of faithful women and men across our city to inspire imagination for what living out your Christian identity in the workplace could look like. In this series we’ll explore topics like: \n\nWho is my neighbor in the workplace?\nWhat does love look like in a corporate setting?\nWhat are practices I can build into my work to live out these truths?\n\nIn this next Lunch + Learn\, we are honored to have with us JK Willis\, Founder of Kind Hearts Community\, an organization focused on spreading kindness through play\, education and community\, and Scott Martin\, Administrator for Chattanooga’s Department of Parks & Outdoors. \nWe invite you to bring a friend and join us at Coolidge Park for an interactive discussion as we think about what it looks like to love our neighbors in our parks and public spaces. Before this\, he was the founding Director of River Heritage Conservancy\, Inc\, the conservancy creating ORIGIN Park on the North Shore of the Falls of the Ohio. Scott has been part of teams in Idaho\, Virginia\, and Kentucky that have created some of our nation’s largest new public park and urban open space conservation systems. \nHe is presently a member of the Executive Board for World Urban Parks. In this role he has delivered talks on urban park and conservation systems to audiences in Australia\, Canada\, Europe\, and Mexico. His work has been featured in the Australasia Parks and Leisure Journal\, Landscape Architecture Magazine\, Virginia Review\, the National Association for Olmsted Parks\, National Geographic\, Creative Mornings\, and the global “Nature in Cities Network”. Scott holds undergraduate and graduate degrees from Boise State University (Go Broncos!)\, and was elected a Fellow in the American Academy for Parks & Recreation Administration in 2021. He and his wife\, Jennifer\, live in Chattanooga with their two marginally well-behaved Dalmatians. Around the world and across industries people are seeing what can happen when they let their faith shape their investing. The movement isn’t new\, but it is accelerating. Leaders from every corner of the earth are using capital to shape their communities\, cities\, and nations. \nGod is calling us to steward our capital for his glory and the good of others. And for too long we’ve created a divide between our charitable giving and our investment portfolios. But what if God is calling us to a more holistic view of stewardship where all that we deploy aligns with his will? \nJoin us here in Chattanooga for a local watch party of the Faith Driven Investor annual conference on January 24th from 11:30am – 2:00pm. The conference will outline a threefold framework for investors that empowers them to build\, give\, and invest with different types of capital coming from the same pocket. Under God’s blessing\, such work holds the promise of glorifying God and serving the common good. \nJoin us at The Camp House on Tuesday\, October 10 at 6:30pm to hear from Dr. Scott Swain as he discusses Paul’s framework and what it teaches us about connecting our work with God’s work. \n  \nAbout the speaker: \nDr. Scott R. Swain is President and James Woodrow Hassell Professor of Systematic Theology at Reformed Theological Seminary in Orlando\, Florida. Dr. Swain has served on the RTS faculty since 2006\, having previously taught at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth\, Texas. \nHis main research interests include the doctrine of God\, theological interpretation of Scripture\, and modern Protestant theology\, and he has published a number of books and essays on these topics. With Dr. Michael Allen\, he serves as general editor of two series: Zondervan Academic’s New Studies in Dogmatics and T & T Clark’s International Theological Commentary.\n\n\nAbout our host:\nTheology on Tap is a podcast hosted by Matt Busby and Joseph Schlabs. SUMMARY:Faith Driven Networking Lunch: Branch Technology
DESCRIPTION:The startup space is full of many joys but also numerous challenges. There is the ability to create meaningful products and services for others\, but often times there can be feelings of extreme loneliness. There is the chance to provide life changing work for employees\, but also the burden of meeting financial quotas. Founders can earn the praise of the public\, while at the same time the fiduciary scrutiny of investors. The ups and downs of this journey can feel isolating and often discouraging with no clear person to share the struggle with. Christians working in this space are not immune to these challenges. Understanding how to trust God in this journey can feel daunting. \nWith this in mind\, we are partnering with Faith Driven Entrepreneur and Faith Driven Investor to host quarterly gatherings for founders\, freelance workers\, those in the startup space\, and investors. The desire for these events is to create regular opportunities for entrepreneurs to gather\, make new connections\, and hear encouraging stories of how God is faithful even in the ups and downs of a business journey. The next event will be a luncheon Tuesday\, September 19\, from 11:45am-1:00pm at Branch Technology. Lunch will be served and you will have the chance to meet and share stories with other founders who are navigating what it means to lead or fund an endeavor while also faithfully following Christ. \nWe are excited to have Branch Technology host this event and also have their leadership team share about what it has looked like to trust God in the building of the company. \nWe hope you will join us for a time of networking and encouragement.
